What is
Salvation?
In its most basic sense, salvation is the saving of a
life from death or harm. Scripture, particularly the New Testament of the Holy
Bible, extends salvation to include deliverance from the penalty and power of
sin.
Scripture repeatedly affirms that salvation is the free gift of God
appropriated through faith.
By confessing your sins and turning away from
them, and earnestly desiring to know Jesus and diligently striving to follow him
whatever the cost.
Why does any
person need to be saved?
Because we have all done things that we
should not have done, and we need to be forgiven of our sins by Jesus
Christ. Rom. 3:23 says,
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Because we
need to have a spiritual relationship with God, and we can only have such a
relationship by receiving the spiritual birth from Jesus Christ. Jesus said in
John 3:3, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see
the kingdom of God."
Because there is a heaven and a hell, and we can
only go to heaven through the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one
comes unto the Father but by me."
Because we are going to die some day,
and only Jesus Christ can give us eternal life. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, "I am the resurrection and the life: he that
believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever lives and
believes in me shall never die."
How does a
person become saved?
By admitting that they have sinned, and
praying to Jesus, and asking Him for forgiveness. Rom.
10:13 says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved." By repenting of their sins. This means to desire to serve God instead of
serving sinful self-interest. Jesus said in Luke
13:3, "except you repent, you shall all likewise perish."
By
believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was born of the virgin, who died for the
sins of the world, who rose from the dead on the third day, and who will come
again.
Rom. 10:9 says, "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved."
A Prayer of
Repentance
Dear Lord, I know I have sinned and done wrong. I am
willing to turn away from those sins and do whatever you ask me to do. I know
that you died on the cross for me and I know that you were raised from the dead.
I ask you to come into my life today and take control. Please forgive me of my
sins and help me turn completely toward you. I receive you as my Lord and Savior
right now. If I died today, I know I would go to heaven to be with you. In
Jesus' name.
Amen
Now you are asking yourself the
question,
"Where do I go from here?"
